The London rapper comes to the Roundhouse London this winter. Professor Green (Stephen Manderson) is a bad boy done good, who made it big after winning Jump Off Rap Battle 2008. His vaunting swagger and clever one-liners, all delivered in a nasal taunt, ensured a modern rags-to-riches fairytale: he was noticed, and signed, by The Streets’ Mike Skinner who also owns independent label The Beats Recordings.
Professor Green, arrest
Unfortunately, he went back to bad again: the musician has had something of an extended annus horribilis. In April, Green wrote on his website of an "incredibly f*****g stressful" 18 months. After meeting Made in Chelsea star Millie Mackintosh, Professor Green
made ‘Mills,’ as she’s often known, his wife in 2013, but the police, in the same year, also arrested Professor Green - drink-drinking
and perverting the course of justice being the charges.
Professor Green, food, Instagram & Millie
His recently rescheduled tour, coming to the Roundhouse London on December 11 2014, marks him getting his life - and music back on track. Professor Green’s Instagram certainly proves this: himself and Millie Mackintosh picture themselves constantly involved in healthy eating and the gym. Two quickfire albums in two years, Alive Till I'm Dead (2010) and At Your Inconvenience (2011), have cemented the Hackney-born Pro Green’s status as one of most explosive talents in the country.
Pro Green, new album
What his new album, due in August, holds, is yet to be fully discovered, but a return to the collaborations that saw his star rise (such as that with Lily Allen on the melodic and bombastic Just Be Good to Green) would be more welcome than his often Eminem ape-ing second album, with songs like 'D.P.M.O' and its anthemic, braggadocio chorus: "Don't p**s me off."
Just be Good to Green...
Professor Green, of course, is confident that his album will be a success, and given that he's responsible for songs as fresh and energetic as Monster, as well as now having a point to prove, it's seems churlish to doubt him. Professor Green will be playing a concert at the Roundhouse London 11th December 2015.
