Amateur and aspiring photographers of all levels are welcome. The intimate teaching environment and hands-on format is tailored the needs of each participant. Along with the experience of witnessing nocturnal London gradually fill with light you will learn valuable techniques, including how exposures and compositions can transform a shot, the technicalities of shooting on manual and the best spots from which to capture the city's splendour.
In what sounds like something from an adventure novel, you must meet at 5am on the middle of a bridge before beginning the journey. There are two different routes, so you can chose your own perspective. Saturday sessions start on the middle of Westminster Bridge, then weave down the South Bank, past the plethora of iconic buildings, to end at London Bridge. The Sunday route begins on Tower Millennium Pier, a pontoon by Tower Bridge and continues on through the strange solitude of the City to end in the bustle of Columbia Road Flower Market. With either session you will be finished, and have plenty of unique photos, by 11:30am.
California-born Anthony has vast and varied expertise to share. Having already published two City at Dawn books, he has been travelling around the world to photograph to build a collation of sunrise shots. He describes how the workshops "teach how to photograph the dawn light – from the ‘blue hour’ when the sky turns from black, to deep blue and then starts to break open with sunlight. We will photograph the iconic views of London as well as discovering hidden spots and interesting characters."
Both the magical experience of daybreak and the valuable photography skills you will learn make this unique workshop well worth the early start.
